During law school, Garry interned at the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner in the Electrochemistry division. He also provided patent preparation services. He assisted low-income and minority inventors in securing IP protection for their inventions and concepts. Before obtaining his law degree, Garry received his Ph.D. in chemistry from The University of Mississippi. He was a postdoctoral fellow for the Research Foundation of the City University of New York. His dissertation and postdoctoral work focused on the global study of environmental pollutants and their biogeochemical cycling in water, sediment, and fish tissue. He has published extensively in scientific journals on the topic and presented his research internationally.
